When the Numbers Tell a Hard Truth
Since January 2000, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recorded 1,977 injury-related aerial lift accidents — many of them fatal.
That’s more than 75 incidents every year.
One every five days.
And every single one was one too many.
The leading causes? Falls, electrocutions, and tip-overs — accidents that are often 100% preventable. The culprits are familiar: unstable mounts, inadequate operator training, and equipment not built for the job.
And here’s the catch — these stats don’t even include scissor lifts (OSHA tracks them under mobile scaffolds). If they did, the numbers would be even more staggering.
Patterns You Can’t Ignore
The data paints a clear picture:
-
Lifts mounted on boxy, unstable trailers
-
Operators climbing outside the safety basket
-
Contact with live electrical lines
Every one of these scenarios is a reminder that safety is not a “checklist item.” In this industry, it’s life or death.

Safety as Your Competitive Edge
Here’s the truth: a reputation for safety isn’t just good business — it’s the only business worth being in. Choosing the wrong aerial lift provider can cost you time, money, and lives.
At Blade Platforms, we set the standard others follow.
Before You Hire Any Aerial Lift Provider, Ask These 3 Questions:
-
What’s your accident history?
-
How are your operators trained and certified?
-
What’s your maintenance schedule — and can I see the records?
If they hesitate to answer, you already have your answer.
